Britain's
top match angler Alan Scotthorne explains why he likes World Champion.
World Champion is the most important part of my warm weather
balling-in mix. It's quite a sticky groundbait and therefore a
very good carrier for loose offerings because a ball won't break
up easily when they are added.
However, for extra food value, I add fluffy Van den Eynde Brown
Crumb, while Damp Leam will also go into the mix to break it up
once it is on the bottom and form a 'carpet' for the fish to feed
over.
If I'm fishing a river like the Trent in summer, I'll mix two
bags of Brown Crumb and one bag of World Champion together, slightly
over-wetted, and leave it for 10 minutes before adding a kilo
of Damp Leam through a maggot riddle. I'll then mix this well
together again and re-riddle. The result is a groundbait that's
suitable for rivers and lakes up to 15 feet deep. Roach and bream
love this combination.
IDEAL
USES
This is a fairly heavy mix, first developed
by Marcel for the 1983 World Championship venue in Holland, which
Belgium won. It's a good attractor for quality roach and chub
and works best in depths of 6-12ft. A good winter groundbait,
it has a fairly sticky consistency which makes it a very good
carrier of loose offerings, when there's a need to get a lot of
casters in a swim with only small amounts of groundbait.
PROVEN
RECIPE SUGGESTIONS
1. 1 World Champion, 1 Vijver. A widely used and very
successful mix for bloodworm and joker fishing on stillwaters.
2. 1 World Champion, 1 Natuur,1 Damp Leam. An ideal mix for
regular feeding with caster and hemp for float fishing on running
water upto 14ft deep.
3. 1 World Champion, 1 Grilled Hemp, ¼ bag of Koreander.
This an 'out and out' roach mix for use on lakes and reservoirs.
MIXING
INSTRUCTIONS
1. For best results, place groundbait and additives
in a round mixing bowl.
2. Blend the dry ingredients thoroughly before adding water.
3. Add water slowly whilst vigorously stirring the mix together.
This procedure is made easier with a sponge, which allows even
distribution of water.
4. The use of a round groundbait bowl means there are no corners
to trap and leave dry groundbait.
5. When the mix begins to appear adequately dampened set it
aside for 5-10 minutes.
6. You should find after 10 minutes the mix will require a little
more water before it's ready for use.
7. If you are using damp leam add it to the mixture now, and
not earlier.
